Today is the day I’ve been dreading all summer–today I send my middle child off to college. He heads off to Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan to study engineering. That’s 1200 miles and 17 hours away from where we live in Tampa, Florida! My oldest is already a junior in college, but he’s only 90 miles away in Orlando.  Huge difference! I created a “release” Bible journaling page for him when he left for college, so I knew I needed to make something similar for Adam.

I love to document special moments and prayers in my Bible, much like scrapbooking. Here, I based my idea off of the t-shirt the university sent to him in his acceptance packet, which read, “World Changers Made Here.”

So I went with that idea and used Matthew 28:19-20 (NIV):

“Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.  Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

I know that I am sending my son to a place where he’s going to learn and grow in God’s Word and wisdom, and that he will be empowered and equipped to CHANGE THE WORLD for Jesus.

However, what gives me the most peace from this verse is that last part, where is says Jesus is always with us. I can’t be with Adam when he’s 1200 miles away–but Jesus can be and indeed IS WITH HIM! That’s good for my mama-heart!

I created this page using the Send Me stamp set from Sweet’n Sassy Stamps. I embossed the globe onto vellum card stock, and colored it with Faber Castell Pitt Big Brush Markers. I embossed Adam’s name on the vellum with the School Days Alpha stamp set.  I stamped the words GO CHANGE THE WORLD directly on my Bible page. For most of this stamping, I used my new Original MISTI stamping platform.  Not only did it help with the embossing and getting clean impressions, but it especially help to add a secure base while working in my chunky Illustrating Bible.

What a great way to celebrate your son! Mine, too, went to college in Michigan (from Maryland), and married a Michigan girl — so now I have 3 (+1 on the way) grandchildren and therefore my heart in Michigan!

  4. My child is only 6, but I still groaned when I saw that you were sending your son off. I have many years to go, but I know it’s just around the corner and that time will be here before I know it! Blessings as you trust the Lord all over again for this next season of his life…and yours. 🙂

  5. Oh what a beautiful way to “let go”. I’m having such anxiety over sending my boys to a new school (and letting them ride the bus) this year. I think I need to do one of these pages myself. Beautifully done!

What a wonderful page you have created! We all have to pray that God will be with are children as they enter college and go on to be productive young adults in life! Your page says so very much to how all parents feel when their kids leave home! Thanks for sharing!

I love how the MISTI helped make this multi-stamped page come out so crisp and clean! Your stamping and your journaling message show the faith that it takes to send our children out into the world to have the real purpose that God has in store for each. Great message!

What a great way to incorporate the t-shirt! We mamas send our kiddos off to college and have to trust in God to protect them once they are out from under our wings. Good luck to your son!

  9. What a great page Julie. Love the globe image with those words… and the vellum name strip… oh, boy! That must have been hard! My oldest will be a senior and I am already dreading the end of the school year and it hasn’t even started!
